U.S. Drug Czar John Walters has been invited by the Canadian Center on Substance Abuse to try and rationalize U.S. drug policy to a Canadian audience. Mr. Walters is a reputed zealot, known for an eagerness to drug test every student in America. He is also an infamous purveyor of anti-cannabis propaganda.

As Eugene Oscapella from the Canadian Foundation for Drug Policy said: "We in Canada have agreed to take John Walters off your [US] hands for a few hours on February 22. I am more than a little perplexed as to why the Canadian Centre on Substance Abuse, a supposedly independent drug policy agency, is inviting him to speak without using a panel format that would allow his statements to be challenged. There will be a question and answer session after his speech, but that will hardly offer the opportunity for a balanced debate. I wonder if these were the only terms on which he would speak here."

I wouldnt say he was a Czar, because that almost makes him sound like a drug baron, or such. I hope he hasnt come to try pressure canada into making some irrational decision about cannabis use.

THats fucken exactly what hes trying to do. Hes the chief of US DRUG POLICY, of course hes a czar. Hes coming to profess his drug policy here so that the conservative government will hear it out and copy the US drug policy. But that will never work here in Canada. Canada and the US, socially are very different. Since we have an english britannia heritage, Canada has always rested with a firm attachment to Europe. So we adopted more progressive policies and political culture compared to the US prudes. I expect to be there. I will be searching if theres any protest that will be organized. Ill try to take pics if i go.

I watched that video and its pretty good, I really like canadas outlook on drugs. Serously it feels like you guys are years ahead of us in drug policy, and your willing to try new things and see what happens. sure wish we had that here
