What metals are ok to use in pipes?

I made a metal pipe out of what i think is brass from the local hardware store, but when i heat it with a lighter it starts giving off an acrid smell and smoking, so i'm gonna assume its not safe to smoke out of. i want to know what metals are ok to smoke out of cause the designs fine, its just the metal i used.

I'm not positive but I think brass is bad to smoke from. It's either brass or copper, I'm not sure. You can use titanium, steel, and other things in that category.

smoking from metal sucks. always use glass if you can. if not, theirs a place somewhere here where it teaches and shows you how to make a bong out of household items.

yah i got busted by my parents and they took all my stuff so im still afraid to buy another nice pipe or bong, i still make home made bongs and have rolling papers but id like to have a cheap metal pipe that looks kinda industrial and is small.
