Rolling tutorial

Hey, until now, me and my buddies have been using "weedarettes" to smoke. But, I just read that it reduces THC because of the filter. And pipes/bongs aren't really an option as no one will go in to buy us one as we're underage. So I'm wanting to learn to roll, I have rolled once with tobacco to practice, but when I smoked it, it didn't feel right at all. And all tutorials I have seen so far are really vague and crappy. So could someone please tell me?

First, get some papers. Any way you can. A friend who's 18, a storekeep who doesn't care, whatever.

I will give you the best, detailed tutorial that I can. Keep in mind that there are no pictures so it may be tough to follow along, but I will try.

1. Break your weed up into very small pieces, the smaller the better. No stems or obtuse shaped shit in there, please.

2. Fill the paper's crease with about .3-.7g weed, or about the width of a pencil from one end to the other. Make sure there is some room on either end that's just paper, .5-1cm is okay.

3. Hold the paper with both of your hands. Your thumbs on one side facing away from you and your pointer and middle fingers supporting the other side of the paper facing toward you. Make sure the adhesive strip is facing towards you.

4. Fold the paper over the weed with your thumbs and roll the weed under the paper with your fingers, making it as cylindrical as possible. Take your time with this, it is the most crucial step. Roll it back and forth until the cylinder you've got is uniform the whole length down, and take care to get the ends of the paper tucked under too.

5. After you're satisfied with the shape, continue to roll the paper upwards toward the adhesive part. When the roll is just under the adhesive, carefully lick the strip with your tongue, making sure not to wet the actual paper. As you finish licking roll it up the final bit so it sticks.

6. Take a pointy object to one of the open ends and push the weed down a bit. Roll some cardstock (business card type things work) into a little cylinder and insert it in the end. This serves as the "filter" that keeps weed from being sucked into your mouth. It also makes the roach easier to hold. This filter is optional but a good idea for beginners.

7. Twist the other open end into a point for easy lighting.

8. Smoke that shit.

This method has gotten me the best joints, and after you've gotten some practice it is simple to roll a prime joint in under a minute freehand. My friends love me for it and yours will too :)

If you guys got any specific problems let me know and I'll try to help.

It can take a while to get it down, so don't get discouraged if your first five are shit or something. After you get good, you'll be happy you took the time and effort to learn. So many stoners nowadays can't roll :(

I was lucky to get taught by my dad. He is dead against weed but he used to roll his own smokes with ZigZags. So he taught me how to roll smokes and I just learned how to do it from that. I remember this one time i twisted the ends (habit) and was just about to give it to him and then noticed, OH Shite, and untwisted them lol

rolling is tough at first, but its all bout practice.

Also a little tip. when your folding one end of the paper (step 4) it really helps to use a card of some sort (credit card or soemthing along those lines) to help fold it under the other side of the paper.

EDIT: reading the post below me, i also roll my filter before making my spliff. that way i can hold the filter at the end of the roll and it gives me somethin to roll around which i find very helpful

I personally roll the filter up before I start rolling then I tape the roll with electrical tape (I like the block showing through the paper) and put it in then add the weed and then I can get the cylinder shaper better and I find it really easy to roll because then I can angle it a bit down so that it doesn't fall out the other end. I have rolled some pretty tight joints that way. Although nothing beats having an old school looking joint without the filter.

Good tips, Ziggy and IcIrIs. I've rolled joints both with and without filters, and i've found that it's easier to resinate the end without one, which blocks the smoke's travel. Filters are good if you are in a setting that allows you to take your time (car, desk, inside @ a party). If you're out in the open rolling on the fly, you just gotta deal.

A final tip that I left out of the tut was that if your joint is a bit damp after you've rolled it, you run the lighter up and down the j about .5-1inch away, being careful not to burn the paper. This will dry out and tighten your j up a little bit. And I'm sure we've all seen this being done before :)

I rolled using tobacco, I'll try get a picture up some time of it, kinda shit I can't get the shape. But, wouldn't it be better to put the filter in at one end then put weed in then roll?

Most people find it easier to put the roach in before rolling, because its harder to get a tight fit between the roach and the excess paper once the joint is rolled. Also, if you roll with tobacco, it's good practise to put one layer of tobacco in the paper, then the weed, then another layer, especially with solid.

I too roll my filters before I start rolling up, and I roll my joints, I don't fold them, folding is a bad thing as it leads to double/triple layers of paper.

Pretty good tut, if you're an American smoker...
