wooden pipe
wooden pipes have intrigued me lately. im thinking of making my own, my only setback....what wood? i was thinking pine, for the smell and taste, but its kind of messy and hard to work with. cedar? i love the smell...never tasted it and its pretty much the standard wood. any other ideas?

We used to make ceramic pipes in our art class and send then through the kiln. Man, those tasted really weird. Is there a better way to line the bowl?
How you do that? I call it dope by magic. This dope by magic got me rich as I want to be...

nah, leave it as wood, u dont need a clay bowl, none of my wood pipes have an inner lining, they got like a kind of varnesh on em which protects em a bit, but i mean, their a decent chunk of wood, and when ur trying to start a fire, ur not gna light a stick with a lighter, u need to start with dried twigs n grass, then work ur way up? i mean, sure the inside will get a little burnt, but the bit of outter burnt wood becomes the woods heatproofing in time (also the collected ash n gunk that collects in the inside, also add to the future heatproofing)
hope this helps
cos i have forgotten where i was goin, if i rmbr any additional info i shall send that, lol

Did you put the shiny stuff on it to make it really smooth and cool looking? If you did that then it wouldn't taste weird at all. All you have to do it put that paint stuff on it and it will taste like your making out with a shiny rockblazedsubaru wrote:We used to make ceramic pipes in our art class and send then through the kiln. yes those were also woods i was thinking about using, but they are fairly more expensive then woods like cedar pine and birch. but i guess a pipe deserves to be made out of a "high class" wood like that. i have some old cherry floor boards that were extra form out floor, but they're thin and would be difficult to fabricate such a thing.
back to the drawing board

yeah but i havent exactly gone out and tasted every single wood out there, so im trying to compile any knowledge here.
also if the pipe is varnished, wouldnt that eliminate any taste that would come from my lips being on it. (obviously it would still flavour the smoke) and also the inside of the bowl shouldnt be varnished? im guessing it would burn off harmful fumes that i really dont think would be benefitial for me to inhale

that might b of use?
basicaly, i not a wood person, so i dont kno what its coated in, but i guessin wood isnt naturaly so shiney and smooth (and a reddish brown colour) i dont believe u would need to coat it in anything, i am just saying for decorative-ness, as i sed, inside doesnt really need to b coated in anything really, i mean a natural cake is usualy made up after some tokin, and wood can b pretty burn resistant (as i sed before with the stick n lighter example) But if u want to b careful, incase u are using a less dense grained wood, you can do this:
'To prevent your wood pipe from burning, make a 50/50 mix of honey and water and use your finger to spread it around the inside of the bowl. Let this mixture dry. After a few bowls, the mix will create a barrier that will be burn resistant. Some people argue that this method is not effective, and can also add a flavor which may be undesirable to smokers. Most Briar pipes are already pre-treated to resist burn, and if smoked correctly, the cake will build up properly on its own'
(quoted from wikipedia)
this obviously adds a different taste to it, and i myself have not tried this yet
hope this helps
