Penalties
I've been thinking of growing two or three plants for personal use but I don't feel like spending the rest of my life being chased around a jail cell by a guy with a stiffy. Anyone know the basic punishment for a small scale grow-op in canada?

I got busted with 286 pot plants in a hydroponic set up and received a 2 yr suspended sentance........spent only 4 hours in a RCMP jail cell immediately after my arrest, while I was being processed. THen they gave me a promise to appear. THat wasn't my first time in the canadian judical system either. You get off with a slap on your wrist in this country

Laws, by state
I found this site several months ago in the dead of winter while dreaming and planning my bountiful harvest.
http://my.marijuana.com/state_laws.php3
Please note that these are state laws and do not include federal penalties.
In Michigan, any amount under 20 plants is a $20,000.00 fine, and a felony with 4 years in prison.
This link provides more specific details for possession, paraphanelia and distribution in the USA.

Hi Jaime-
I hope you are right that it is eventually nationally legalized, even if its just for medical use. However i have doubts that the price will ever go down. Give Uncle Sam his due in taxes (tobacco) and you will still have inflated prices unless you can continue to buy it on the black market (illegal).
If it is as you suspect that growing and dealing will still be illegal, where do you propose that people will get the legal stuff to smoke? Tariffs on those poor Columbians/Hawaiians/Thai etc. will not bring the price down. Repubs will never let it happen. I predict that it will be a good long time (probably not in my lifetime) before it is made legal in my state, and the US govt becomes the dealer anywhere. I think id just prefer they look the other way and keep their fingers outta my bowl.

well the canadian government is looking at decrimanlizing it which would make it so if u got caught smoking pot you would get a fine if anything and it wouldnt go on ur record. or the will legalize it. but if u were found growing it or dealing or importing it u would have a punishment... see they want you to have to buy it from stores cuz then the government still gets money... but since it would be highly avaliable i think that street price may go down depending on how much it is in stores. with the canadian government being as dumbassish as it is... i dont think it will be much longer before it is legalized or decriminalized.... lol i hope it wont be long...
