Hey everyone,
I was wondering if any of you know if there is a relationship between smoking weed (from an everyday smoker) and taking anti-depressants.
I've read online that most doctors, etc., agree its a bad combination, but I was wondering if any of you have any experience or know anything different.
Any help would be appreciated.

I was told by a psychiatrist that the weed will counteract the pills but that might have been bs.
From personal experience I would feel more stoned.

If you have been prescribed anti-depressants I assume you have been diagnosed with some kind of mental malaise. It has been proven, scientifically, that marijuana will dramatically increase the severity of many mental problems. It can prove a trigger for mentall illnesses that have laid dormant in your being for many years.
As to the physiological effects of combing weed and anti-depressants I have no idea.
Weed can cause mental issues, and it invariably makes many established mentall illnesses, far worse.
good luck.

where are you getting you info from animal? nothing has been proven about mental health regarding cannabis. there are many people on both sides of the spectrum some say it helps while other claims it makes things worse. Personally I consider marijuana a psychedelic anti-deppressant.
check out my thread in the health section about cannabis and mental health.

Im pretty sure if your smoking cannabis daily it will have a negative affect on your brain from short term memory loss (a problem of which i am definatly a victim) to emotional problems, something which ive seen no evidence of but ive heard it can cause people to have a lack of emotion and the other extreme, to be over emotional. My only reasons for thinking this are the mixed reports you get from the media and stories from friends, where else am i meant to get my info from. At the end of the day you cant believe everything you read or hear but you've got to be cautious of some things.

I've always heard that marijuana, as well as many hallucinogens, that may otherwise have little to no impact on health, can cause serious problems in those predisposed towards mental problems. While most people will never have these problems, it is still possible for weed to trigger problems that lay dormant.Weedguru DrGreenthumb wrote:where are you getting you info from animal? nothing has been proven about mental health regarding cannabis. there are many people on both sides of the spectrum some say it helps while other claims it makes things worse. Well I'm no expert on this, but that's what I get out of most of the info I read.

this is from the guardian
"Professor Robin Murray, head of general psychiatry at the Institute of Psychiatry, London, warned its use was now the "number one problem" facing mental health services.
Professor Murray told the Times that inner-city psychiatric services were reaching crisis point with up to 80% of new cases of schizophrenia involving a history of cannabis use.
He said that four studies published in the last two years found that teenagers who used cannabis were up to seven times more likely to develop a psychotic mental illness such as schizophrenia or manic depression.
""The evidence would seem to support a link between cannabis use and mental health problems, but what exactly the link is unclear. It seems more likely that cannabis use is a trigger rather than a direct cause of psychosis, but we need more research to establish that."
