oh HELL no! that would be stupid as hell, they're not helping shit they're just getting everyone killed, todays army changes you into a hardassed stern douche bag. this war is the most pointless retarded inbred idea we've ever come across, joining now is pretty much asking to be miserable and die a meaningless death... that's just my view on it though.

Well, here in Canada, its a different story (at least it was untill we elected Harper, the canadian 'Bush') Only 12 canadian soldiers have died in the past so many years (..The news told me..)
I think war is unnecessary, but it happens. It takes some kind of person to join somthing like that... Nothing but respect for those people..
It dose provide excellent benifits. I mean, they don't just give you a gun and throw you in Afganistan. You'll need to be trained, they'll pay for your education..

the only life skills that the modern US army can teach are
1. how to kill humans as esily as you'd stamp on a ant
and
2. how to make the world hate your country...
if you are after those kinda skills, i fear for your sanity......
please don't join the army.....
speaking of Canda:Us military issues...There is agrowing number of US soldiers who are deserting their killing duties in exchange for the safe haven of Canada..Yes there are certain extradition processes for 'deserters of the US army' but these soldiers--the ones who are swapping Chaos for Sanctitude(unless yo are a seal)--are adamant that they are well within their legals rights to flee because the US army has violatd many legal humans rights laws......Not that 2 wrongs make a right, moreover these soldiers are no longr obligated to their US duties because the US army itself is illegal.....interesting story...

I found the story about the soldiers going to canada
http://ipsnews.net/interna.asp?idnews=26529
It doesn't say anything about a humans rights, but I don't doubt that our military violated them

I think drugs have done some good things for us, and if you don't believe me, do me a favor. Go home tonight and burn all your albums, tapes, and cd's. Because the musicians who made all that great music...rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrreal fucking high on drugs.

Being trained to be a killing machine does interest me but for me the cons outweigh the pros. Maybe with a new president things will change but I would hate being the strength of a president who is warbound. On the other hand you do get to travel and see different parts of the world even though some might not be so nice.
It's all up to you, you have to decide what matters to you and how you can get by in the armed force. As for me you wont be seing me signing up unless they start up a draft or my something in my life has gone seriously wrong.
Good Luck and make sure to put alot of thought into your decision. If your going for experience other than killing you might want to check out some other branches (marines, navy, air force). In the army your a basic foot soldier, if your going to become a killing machine you might as well be a top of the line killer.

“Cannibalism? Racism? Dude, that’s not for us ... those decisions are better left to the suits in Washington. We’re just here to eat some dude!”

Joining the military has many pros and cons like many people have mentioned.
Pros
Travel the world
Free healthcare
Very beneficial retirement program/pension
Salary
Subsidised food/accommodation
Tax free wages for reserves (part time)
Training in specific professions
Money for College or higher education
Cons
Faced with combat situations(killing another human being)
Away from home
You may die
You have no real freedom in the service(they tell you what to do all the time)
Commitment cannot be broken for sometime without serious consequences
You have no real privacy, especially in the beginning
The military decides your clothing and your hair style
The way I look at it, the military would be a good choice for me if I could not afford a college education. I entertained the idea of joining the Air Force after highschool but I decided college would be a better choice. Also my parents did not want me to join because I might be killed. Do what you think is right for you. And if you do join, stay sharp.
