My sister has just become pregnant after 2 years of trying! However she is a regular smoker and nothing is working to help her quit. All the crap that you can buy she's tried and she's now going cold turkey but the doctor says it is doing more harm than good as she is so stressed. Any suggestions guys would be really appreciated as im wel lookin forward to being an uncle of a non-nicotine addicted babe!

Cold turkey ain't such a good idea. It's gonnba be even harder for her with the maternity leave, it's gonna take out a huge section of her day where usually she'd be too busy to smoke. Tell her to maybe set designated times for herself. Like maybe a cigarrette every 3 or 4 hours, eventually she'll wean herself from the nicotine and won't need it anymore.

congrats on being an unlce. i have 3 nephews and 3 nieces and they are fucking cool.

as for the smoking, just suggest to her to cut the amount she usually smokes in a day in half. then after one week, cut that number in half and so on untill she is'nt craving them as much.

hm maybve she should have quit before becoming pregnant, but because you said she's been tryin for 2 years, she never knew wen she was guna b pregnant. I'd say just reduce so after about a month she's stopped, u want her to stop smokin as soon as possible

Dude, tell her to quit cold turkey right away. My niece was a pretty heavy smoker too (more than a pack a day), and she managed fine. Don't put a child's health at risk. If you can't cope with some stress from not smoking while you're pregnant, you shouldn't be having kids in the first place.

I wholeheartedly agree! I'm a person who quit a heavy cigarette habit cold turkey (I smoked the last one on Thursday, July 13, 2000 at 4:15 pm. It was a Marlboro Ultralite 100 that I bummed.... it was kind of bent). I can attest to the high level of stress that quitting causes. But you have to buck up against the pain, which is much better after a week and exponentially so after a month. It actually takes about 6 months to a year before you don't crave a cigarette every day.

In my opinion, it's better that your sister quit now, or she'll be smoking around her baby, and then around her child.... and if she chooses to quit then, she'll be just as stressed. Stressed moms with no cigarettes are bitchy. So if she doesn't quit now, she's going to be abusing her kid one way or the other!

GOOD LUCK QUITTING! - it is so worth it.
