*Sigh* Gun Control In America

Well at one point in time the US government was being oppressive, the people did revolt, and then the US government destroyed the entire region. What was that, oh yeah the Civil War. If that's really the point of the constitutional right to bear arms, then it obviously isn't a very effective right. If anyone tried to start a rebellion today they wouldn't stand a chance. How sad is it that our founding document says "But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security." I think nowadays this applies, and I think we should be able to throw off our current government and start over, but it isn't going to happen any time soon.

I certainly respect and understand most of your opinions concerning guns, but I have to disagree on the idea that some guns are "good" and others are "bad", and that you only should be able to own guns you "need". Who determines what we need? I don't need alot of things to live, so it's OK that they are labled illegal?

these other things are not used to kill or maim people. There is a big difference between firearms. If you are hunting, why do you need a weapon that is powerful enough to pierce armor? the deer is not wearing Kevlar... these weapons are made for war, and to allow citizens to have them seems idiotic to me.

As for the legitimate use of firearms, well there's a whole bunch of people who manage to do a wide variety of social activities with firearms without perforating fellow human beings in the process. Try an internet search. Why do they engage in such activities? Certainly not because they absolutely need to, but beacuse those activities bring them great joy. Why shouldn't they?

You tell me to search? seriously? Sport? what else?
And why cant these facilities be equipped to securely hold peoples guns
for them while they are not using them? We put our money in a bank... we could put our guns in a similar fortress for use when we need them.

The only problem I have with banning guns is the fact that bans only affect people like you and me who will respect the law (wait a minute, I smoke da sweet weed! I guess I'm no more a law abiding citizen ). Let's face it, the cat is out of the bag and guns will always be available. It is imposible to keep guns away from bad people. If you have a plan for evaporating ALL guns from the face of the Earth simultaneously, and all knowledge to construct them, the sign me on. Until then respect my individual preference to keep a gun for fun, and for the "just in case" scenario.

yes it is impossible to keep guns away from most bad people. but not all people who commit murder or injure people with guns set out with premeditated intentions... most i suspect would be in the heat of rage or passion. removing guns from these people would probably cut the number of gun related fatalities in half.
Look at Japan, Australia, Holland, New Zealand... any one of many nations, who have tight gun control. No its not impossible to get a gun, but it is very time consuming. Yes there are still bad people with guns, but the number of gun related deaths is very small.
Instead of two people getting into a fight and pulling out guns and shooting it out, there may be a couple of punches thrown, perhaps a stabbing at worst case...
There is no quick fix solution to this problem, but i think america needs to begin looking at controlling ammunition sales especially, and introducing tighter gun control sales and ownership. Eventually many guns stop working due to lack of care etc, and they will become redundant, so for the safety of future generations i believe it is important to start taking baby steps now.

Fuckin.... i was at this guys house who was the husband of a girl my friend works with. We were over there because we needed a place to crash and get drunk one night.
Anyhow, so this dude starts talking about his gun collection, and he has a fuckin ak-47 he bought somewhere outside the US and had it taken apart and shipped piece by piece to himself. He also had these 9mm bullets that cops use... has like an indented nose and metal studs so it "mushrooms" upon impact.

Sure those of us in America have a second amendment right to bear arms, but keep in mind that these issues were addressed when we were still at war with England over our own country. This amendment was important then because they were fighting for a cause and neeed to be entitled to be properly equipped for that cause.

Now days there should be something addressing the issue of nuclear weapons. this "missile defense system" that our government wants.. its pointless. no one is going to be shooting missiles at us anymore. There are hundreds of uranium based weapons in Russia being guarded by guards who get paid like $100 a week. What if some dude was like "hey, heres $10k. lemme at somma them weapons." and the Ruskie is all "ok. I wont know where they go. I just pretend they arent there." and bam, you get some guy who can craft a nuclear bomb that fits in a backpack.

Really, building something of that calibur isnt hard. THe hardest part is finding uranium...

anyhow, so my point here is this: As technology changes, so too do threats. It would be more practical to try to stop small highly explosive bombs than to try and debate guns.

If there's one thing that I think most the world can agree on is that bush is a deusch. I am a pretty conservative person (except for one activity) and i would still gladly take a shot at that ass pirate.
