A multiverse?... Nah... The universe just goes on forever. We just don't have the mental capacity to understand or even fathom the fact. That's my conjecture anyway...

so - you believe in a static universe ? Like einstein's ?pkkupo wrote:A multiverse?... Nah... The universe just goes on forever. We just don't have the mental capacity to understand or even fathom the fact. That's my conjecture anyway...

For all purposes of discussion, yes. Yes I do.

I also really like this model, it makes the most sense to me. The only problem are the Hubbles discovery in 1920's.
When he found out galaxies were all expanding away from us.
But in my opinion - it doesnt really prove the WHOLE universe works like that. Maybe it's only our local super cluster group that is expanding away close to another super cluster.

^Could be... It doesn't prove that space itself is expanding... Only that ordinary matter is drifting (or being forced) farther away from other ordinary matter.... Could be the effect of dark energy and space (since it is physical) is indeed expanding (probably not, but Stephen Hawking thinks it is, so who the fuck knows...)
My entire subjective perception of the universe stems from the big bang theory... My guess is that the universe will expand (from the residual explosive energy of the big bang [dark energy, I suppose]) and then, over the course of billions of eons, will contract into one epic star-like mass and another big bang will, eventually, occur... And the universe, (and eventually, evolution) will begin again...

yea, the big-bang/big-crunch explains well the cosmic background radiation and the color shifts on stars.
it also pretty well explains why futher galaxies looks older. But i can't imagine everything to be compressed with ''nothing'' around. =-/

The theory is that the force of dark energy will eventually shift and reverse so that it has, essentially, the same effect as dark matter but on the universal scale. Something like that anyway...

Well, at least from observation, the mathematics work out to prove that this is all happening. If anyone is interested, on a slightly different topic, theres a fascinating video about dimensions and string theory hosted on the website TED, which, if you haven't heard about it or seen it yet, is FASCINATING. It hosts a bunch of lectures about everything from oceans to education, technology, space, theories, inventions, etc. and they're all FREE!

String theory lecture. VERY interesting.

I found that guy quite...Meh, man. Something about his body language. Interesting shit he is talking about nonetheless. Although I really don't see a point in thinking about shit that small. What can even come from knowing that theres like 20 million extra dimensions that we can't even see or touch or really know they're there.
