Facts ain't propaganda though. If you Google something for facts, it's not propaganda you're looking at, it's facts :| So if a movie is just sitting telling you all these facts that you can look up yourself, it ain't really propaganda, it's just facts.

Yeah they may lead you to a certain conclusion or change your way of thinking about something but all that is presented to you is fact. Nothing is twisted or doctored to MAKE you believe a certain thing.

...no its still propaganda, that is the definition of propaganda that i posted up. a movie about peace and weed made for the population to believe war is wrong IS propaganda even if it IS true and IS right.

If you are using the 'made with the intention of making people believe' tag, then you must include ALL presentations passed of as fact, whether intended for wholesale, widespread consumption, or not. which is goonlike. Propoganda has a negative stigma attached to it, for good reason, for I know of NO propoganda routines which have been used to make people nicer, and also somehow deceived...I do not know the true definition of propoganda, but for me, it remains a negative term, for something dark, and manipulative for the good of the Maker of the FIlm, NOT THE GOOD OF ALL...so, perhaps, flyin, you can give us the true definition, then cite examples from both camps, i.e. propoganda for Good of All, and propoganda for Good Of Some, At The Expense Of Others...for the only negative aspect I can see of a presentation persuasive towards Weed And Peace, is that there needs to be a different film, shown to the few who are willing to die for the cause, which makes them prepared for the fuckers who dont give a fuck about the Many, only about the Self. Humans are naturally selfish, greedy, villain swine...to create a utopia of sorts is impossible without having Defenders of the Utopia, which changes the Utopia...For there will ALWAYS be humans who care nothing for others, and if they see peaceful, bountiful folks, they will rape them, pillage them, crush them...

i never once said that there was propaganda to make people nicer or anything like that. ive only stated the definition of propaganda. obviously people arent going to use it to try to make people help people and what not, humans are manipulative and the people who have enough power to make propaganda would rather cause fear than happiness if it means they will make more money.

just because something hasnt happened yet does not mean that the definition should only be negative.

Propaganda is neutrally defined as a systematic form of purposeful persuasion that attempts to influence the emotions, attitudes, opinions, and actions of specified target audiences for ideological, political or commercial purposes through the controlled transmission of one-sided messages (which may or may not be factual) via mass and direct media channels.

— Richard Alan Nelson, A Chronology and Glossary of Propaganda in the United States
which means the Esoteric Agenda and Kymatica are both propaganda, Toonces.

You HAD most definitely not, prior to this post, presented ANY widely held defintion of Propaganda, which I now know how to properly spell. And the source you have quoted, does not fall under that category. Its an effort, but not the collins english dictionary, of an english term. Though, I doubt that definition would be far removed or wayward from Nelson's attempt.

and you have detracted from the defintion you gave, for that does not imply a definite financial purpose...it merely includes a commercial interest. If we are to delve deeper...propaganda for the US is likely more basic, and simplified than propaganda for other societies for it is far more than a sweeping generalization to assert that the US is one of the dumbest populations, not solely of the western world, but of the world as a whole. This can be debated, but the evidence within easy grab, confirms my point. Only the australians come close, to the horrendous and definitely dumb percentages...these of course are of subjective, and can in NO WAY be legitamized through facts or quotes. They are so obviously rooted in subjective opinion and experience, that I need not continue to beat my oar against your tide...

Regardless...I am not AGAINST you, flying, and if my truth be known, then I enjoy your inquisitive, challenging nature. But on this point, a point YOU raised, its paltry, and open to challenge, to remand yourself into the custody of men, and their definitions, whom i doubt highly, you have ANY personal regard for...which makes your stance, rather flimsy.

My intention was to suggest, from what you wrote originally...that you are playing nothing more than devil's advocate, sidestepping presenting your own subjective stance, instead, offering the stance of others. Which is lame, not worthy, of a young man, with an obvious zeal for debate and intellectual sparring. For personally, as I value your input, whether antagonizing or supportive, I demand, or in the least, I plead, for your view, YOUR opinion, YOUR stance...

yes it is.

i googled Define Propaganda and this showed up Animal. i will post propaganda as defined by a dictionary i have used throughout school and the one that you have suggesteds to prove i had posted a recognized definition of propaganda.

Merriam-Webster wrote:Main Entry: pro·pa·gan·da
Pronunciation: \ˌprä-pə-ˈgan-də, ˌprō-\
Function: noun
Etymology: New Latin, from Congregatio de propaganda fide Congregation for propagating the faith, organization established by Pope Gregory XV †1623
Date: 1718

1 capitalized : a congregation of the Roman curia having jurisdiction over missionary territories and related institutions
2 : the spreading of ideas, information, or rumor for the purpose of helping or injuring an institution, a cause, or a person
3 : ideas, facts, or allegations spread deliberately to further one's cause or to damage an opposing cause; also : a public action having such an effect

— pro·pa·gan·dist \-dist\ noun or adjective

— pro·pa·gan·dis·tic \-ˌgan-ˈdis-tik\ adjective

— pro·pa·gan·dis·ti·cal·ly \-ti-k(ə-)lē\ adverb
Collins wrote:propaganda
n
1 the organized dissemination of information, allegations, etc., to assist or damage the cause of a government, movement, etc.
2 such information, allegations, etc.
(C18: from Italian, use of propaganda in the New Latin title Sacra Congregatio de Propaganda Fide Sacred Congregation for Propagating the Faith)
♦ propagandism n
♦ propagandist n, adj

all 3 of those although worded differently seem to be very similar to me.

EDIT: completely forgot about the last paragraph in your post asking for my opinion on propaganda. i am not entirely sure what you had meant by my opinion as it is a definition of a word that we are talking about and not how we feel about the subject itself.

I still don't really see how Esoteric Agenda is propaganda. It's just really an informational film. The maker doesn't really gain anything from having people watch it. In my opinion it's not propaganda.

NO! A police force is necessary in society and police are not all ill minded fucks bent on making peoples lives a living hell. If someone gets arrested or cited for something they probably deserve it, it is not that hard to stay out of trouble, unless it is trouble you are looking for.
I never said that a police force is unnecesary in society, I'm saying that I want to move away from California or at least from the urban areas because quite frankly there is a LOT of police, due to the fact that it is a high population area and thus there is a high population of police, meaning that there is a higher chance that I would be searched and busted for weed (if this is your definition of trouble, then I wonder what you are doing on this site) or whatever fucking thing I like to do in my private time that doesn't interfere in the lives of others but the government doesn't approve. Though now replying to your argument: In a society where a police officer's job security rests on the amount of arrests he makes, I personally think it may in fact be a large part of their job to make peoples lives hell, not so much in the citations but in the arrests that occur when a citation would have sufficed, and the consequences of having such arrests on record.

On this propaganda debate: I think any communication medium used to further any information that may be deemed contrary to another's ideals can be considered propaganda. So like religious fundamentalists would consider learning Darwinism in schools propaganda, etc.

Sure the amount of police officers will decrease in a lesser populated place, but so will the amount of people; possibly leaving the percentage of police to citizens at a similar rate. Two, you live in California, to my understanding (http://www.norml.org/index.cfm?wtm_view=&Group_ID=4525) you can have an ounce of weed and only pay a $100 fine, what in the hell is wrong with that law? Jesus, why would you need to be driving around with more than an ounce of weed anyway? I rather doubt the police force in CA is going to search your house and be concerned about what you do in your private time unless your committing a major felony, which then they have the authority to do so. Besides that, even if smoking weed and driving has no detrimental effects it is still driving under the influence and is punishable by arrest, don't smoke while you drive, if you smoke before you drive throw in some fucking eye drops or do whatever it is to avoid being detected in whatever circumstance your trying to convey here...

I never said I was against smoking weed, but laws are laws and if people cannot follow laws, then they should be fined. I mean Christ I never get searched for weed by cops and this is one of the strictest states in the nation when it comes to that issue. Just don't be smoking weed and driving a car and you should have nothing to worry about, cops are not going to come to your house simply because you like smoking reefer, especially in California. If your moving large amounts or growing thats another thing altogether. I don't condemn marijuana, hell I am an advocate of legalizing the herb. I mean really I don't understand how hard it is to be a functioning member of society and stay out of trouble, It starts with knowledge, understand your laws and you can understand your police.
Get busy living or get busy dying.
