Why should I respect an absurd view? "If somebody thinks taxes should go up or down you are free to have an argument about it, but on the other hand if somebody says 'I mustn't move a light switch on a Saturday', you say, 'Fine, I respect that'. The moment I say something that has something to do with somebody's (I'm going to stick my neck out here and say irrational) beliefs, then we all become terribly protective and terribly defensive and say 'No, we don't attack that; that's an irrational belief but no, we respect it'." That's Douglas Adams.

If you want to have a silly conversation about what an imaginary character wears, go ahead, but why is this in the debate forum?

calling god an imaginary character, ikku, is probably not the best idea on a stoner forums. you'd be surprised the crazy shit a very open minded person can believe/ come up with. I can sometimes convince myself there is a god! lol

wow, this has become a very hatefull thread, and thats why i agree with the person who said that agnostisim is the way to go, because i just dont care wheather ther is or isnt a god. i belive that religion could be a sham, but it was probably created in order to help people, it always helps to have someone else to blame, or someone to talk to, but sombody took it to far. ive lost trak of my point, because im not really interested in this, but basicly, people are free to belive in whatever they want, simply because you canot limit the human mind, everyone literaly is free to do what they will with their mind, so im just repeating my self now, and am going to say that you dont have to respect someones ideas, but the fact that they have ideas, because if you dont respect that, then what are you left with?

HAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHA but now... lolol im sorry if anyone here is a scientologist and this might hurt you.... but what was Elrond Hubbert smoking? Have you guys actually read up on what this SCIENCE FICTION WRITER proclaims as his religion? Its crazy... but i unno.. ill still respect you for what you beleive in... but HAHA they spacifically explain

In Scientology doctrine, Xenu (also Xemu), pronounced /'zi.nu/, was the dictator of the "Galactic Confederacy" who, 75 million years ago, brought billions of aliens to Earth in DC-8-like spacecraft, stacked them around volcanoes and blew them up with hydrogen bombs. Their souls then clustered together and stuck to the bodies of the living, and continue to wreak chaos and havoc today.

hahahaha wait.... if you are scientologist and blaze up... then your obviosly not scientologist since they are reealllyyy strict anti druggists

When I first saw a South Park about scientology I though they had to be joking. But after studying the religion more it really is just made up by some crazy science fiction writer.

I'm pretty fucking lost too. I like it though.

Btw god would wear clothing appropriate for his ethnicity/race. Now I'm pretty sure Gorecore's a relatively open minded Canadian so.. probably a hockey jersey and boxers or lack thereof.

I saw on TV today, this man lost his son, his son died...
So he had him cremated, took his ashes, and then made it into a Diamond ring...
Now he watches his son shine every day.
I just thought about that, while I sit here ashing in this ashtray...

God wears a pink tutu and a fake moustache and calls himself by the name of Valdez.

ok... sooo Elrond Hubbert ( a science fiction writer) is the founder of scinetology... by them and i sweat to god this is what they heonstly believe in... A galactic conferedation of some sort 75 million years ago came to earth on ships that respebled DC-8 (this is like word for word off of thier like bible) and they released millions of souls into some volcanos and then nuked the earth (lol i have no clue why) and the souls are now in us and thats what causes chaos and such.... well to sum it all up (for me at least) Elrond Hubbert took a little too much LSD back in the day, maybe did meth while he was writing this stuff and now its a religion, and their base is in the center of LA... i've been inside the hotel place actually.... its kinda kreepy

I love the naievety of the idea that "scientology was just made up by some guy." Yeah, as opposed to all the other religions. God didn't write the bible. Just because it happened in the 60s rather than a couple of thousand years ago doesn't make it any more or less genuine.

Like Christianity, Islam and all other religions, Scientology has some nice sentiments and good values, but also alot of irregularities and bullshit. It's because, like it or not, they are all man made. Yes the ideas are far out, but you think everyone viewed Christianity as a legitimate religion when it first came to be? These days whether you believe in it or not, you must respect it because it's a part of peoples life and appears to give them happiness.

If you achieve a sense of happiness then it doesn't matter how you got there. That means Scientologists deserve as much respect as anyone else because, rightly or wrongly (and to be fair it's almost certainly wrongly) that's what they believe.

No religions make sense. The ideas of alien souls living within us holds just as much credibility as some old guy in the sky clapping his hands and creating existence. What is always key is that you take the organised religions and their various texts with a pinch of salt, an focus on the morals and the good things they try to do. Regardless or opinion, it is your duty to be a good person, and like it or not these various religions promote such an attitude in places. Combine them all and come up with your own beliefs and values. If it fits into a pre-made religion then great, if not then create one for yourself and live by it. You draw your own line and it's up to you not to cross it.

Exactly, as long as there is peace and happiness then it doesn't really matter how you get there.
