Re: Am I to blame?
As for the dog, you should do as Charlie suggested, or call the pound to come get it, and have your mother banned from having any more pets. The latter is harsher, but when a creatures life is at stake, the matter is already harsh.
Your mother appears in your words as haggard, depressed, without hope, and desperately in need of help, or of people close to her helping her to help herself. Both options are severe. You appear much stronger than her, Andria, and clearly in no position to feel guilt, for anything other than a perceived sense of obligation to her welfare. If that is where your sense of guilt arises from, then speak to her, tell her what you have told us, as calmly, AND STERNLY, as possible. For fucks sake, dont get back with your ex solely in order to live somewhere more pleasant. Thats building something on a foundation of Need, not Desire...but you know this shit already, I am sure. Does your mother have any close relatives who could help????
I wish you well, Andria, and hope that you can help her, but please, do not take on responsibility for the problems of your parents. You have YOUR life to lead, first and foremost. Show Respect. Show Love, Help if you can...but if all else fails, flee the scene, consult the authorities. I have only ever done something similar with a very close friend of mine, and have felt bad about since...Telling social services that this chap is a danger to himself and society...but, i had nowhere else to run. Do you???

Re: Am I to blame?
Pretty much all of the above..
Remove the dog for a start.
Do the gardens etc, things that dont cost any money to do
around the house... just a bit of elbow grease.
i agree with whoever said that if your mother sees what the house could be
she may become more motivated to begin again.
you mentioned that your mother did a lot when you were younger to get food on the table for
you and your sisters... a little help in return seems like a good thing to do.
it will make you both of you feel better about the situation
best of luck

Re: Am I to blame?
Um a little update for y'alls...I moved out and decided to ignore all that bullshit. Really it has nothing to do with me. My mom is a grown woman. Yes I do love her to death but I have my own fucked up life to worry about.
I'm not Dr.Phil ya know. Yeah she did alot for me in the past but yea..maybe I'm being heartless but I honestly don't care anymore.
Now that I'm away she can get that second job she was talking about.
I will in the next couple of weeks be taking the dog out of the house. I will help her clean up and what not, but that's as far as it goes.

Re: Am I to blame?
Cha, I did. Not just because of all that stuff that was happening at my moms house. I wanted to get back together with him.

Re: Am I to blame?
this is definately the best way to sort it out. this is the advice i was going to give but you said it yourself first. Even something so simple as hittin the gym can make you feel a lot better about yourself.andriaSRH wrote:She needs to meet new people or take up a hobby or something.
Truth be told, I often make sure i stick to my hobbies and i'm forever meeting new people and trying to broaden my horizons. I feel like if i don't i may end up in the same "just don't give a fuck" situation.
sorry i haven't replied in this sooner, by the way. I have honestly never seen this thread.
I hate to see this happening to any person. I've had friends that end up not caring at all. f it happened to my mother, i would be in complete distress.
and no, it's not your fault.

Re: Am I to blame?
^ My older sisters boyfriends mom has been up here from Mississippi. Her and my mom have been hitting it off well. I'm not sure when she will be leaving...I hope not anytime soon. I think all my mom wanted was someone around her age to talk to. My madre also has the birth of my niece to look forward to in the next couple of months.
Thanks for the kind words man. Things are looking up for my mom and I didn't even intervene yet. I think it was just a dark time for her.
Well seeing as that whenever we fought I would vent on here... All they heard was bad stuff about him..I can see why they feel that way.
It's weird tho..online and offline no one likes him.
