ok, i dont kno if this only rised in my area or summat, but it seemed to die out pretty quick, but does anyone rmbr the text talk in which letters were replaced by full stops, only leavin in enough letters to hopefuly guess what the word was.
does anyone else rmbr that shit, it used to drive me up the wall like, could never understand it, lol

I had a ridiculously long post typed out days ago with a bunch of acronyms/abbreviations but my computer crashed and I never worked up the mental energy to get it done again. The post was also too long to be posted.... Something to do with a limit of characters allowed in one given post. Is that necessary to have?

oh dont get me started... i do this well too often, its because i played too many fps's on vent or ts or sum shit, and now it slips all the time in real life interaction, its so bad i kno, but its like a reflex sometimes.
if someone accidently ses a gamer term in normal convo thats it for me like
e.g.
*someone* yea i got thing pre-owned
*me somewhere in the background* LOL

but without a doubt my worst verbal slip up is rofl, and i have attempted lmao, but its not impossible to pronounce me thinks

My daughter also spells words like texting abbreviations. In an story she wrote , she had written several words out as they sound, just like texting. I forget what words she used, but they were easy words she knew how to spell. I asked her why and she said it didn't matter. I told her it did matter, that you had to spell words correctly. She rolled her eyes and said "that's dumb, it takes longer"

Well our generation kinda started those abbreviated messages, so it's quite natural kids pick it up way sooner nowadays.

But I agree, maybe they ought to empathize the fact that real decent spelling is more important than leisure spelling on the internet/text messaging, that way the kids know they are allowed to use the abbreviated spelling in context, rather than send out application forms with text message spelling when they are adult and looking for jobs

I generally don't talk to people who abbreviate shit all the time. I have a close friend who does it but he doesn't know any better.. If you were to here someone from Scotland say "well" you would hear it as "wew" or "whewh" or someshit like that Anyways, he spells all his words like you say them with a Glaswegian accent. It's annoying as fuck but he's my friend so I tend to put up with it.

i think its fine, as long as children know when to use it and when not to...
infact i think its beneficial as it is almost like writing in two different languages.
However i think that there should be a heavy emphasis on correct spelling and grammar early on
