dont get the wrong idea, im not sectarian, but im proud to be be British...

no i think posting alot of topics like that would just be a waste of time, but generally dont see the point in the monarchy, didnt want it to be an anti-queen thing but i can see why you took it that way, so no hard feelings... what part of Ulster u from?, im guessing not Donegal.

I just dont understand the point, what does the queen even do? she doesnt even have a purpose, she's not really involved at all with the government. It just seems totally ridiculous and pointless

Europeans have strong ancestreal ties, and a much greater feeling of history and love for their country than we do. The queen did a lot in the past, and although still does some work, does admittingly less now; but due to the fact that the queen has been there for so long, europeans wish not to change that. Its a very european thing, one they wish to hold to. Most europeans also arent big fans of change. Note that the ones who DID want change, sailed over to what is now the united states and started a country based off brand new radical ideas that had been completely rejected in europe.

What the fuck blackxs? That's just such a stupid and ignorant point of view. Europeans don't like change? You realize that Europe is a bit more progressive than the United States?

erh, dude.

Europe's an evolving continent, the European Union has expanded enormously over the last few years (27 countries in total now) so you telling us we don't like change (thus are a conservative people) is completely untrue...
Computer games don't affect kids. I mean, if Pac-Man had affected us as kids, we would all be running around darkened rooms, munching magic pills, and listening to repetitive electronic music.

I see most royalty in today's world as a national symbol, not a supreme ruler

After the age of monarchys, democracies and communism were getting bigger.
democracy litterally killed off most communists, so they won the battle.
Now today's world is a democratical one, and that's where the real power is.
I'm sure in the future, something will come along and kick the crap out of democracy, and perhaps america will view their president as a national symbolm not a figure of lawful power, much like the royalties of today
I think drugs have done some good things for us, and if you don't believe me, do me a favor. Go home tonight and burn all your albums, tapes, and cd's. Because the musicians who made all that great music...rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrreal fucking high on drugs.

That's pretty much what the President already is.

Are you kidding? The president has so much power, it's unreasonable....

He can claim anything as 'national security' so he can legally keep things from the public...and that could be anything since the justice system and even congress aren't allowed to know what this 'national security' problem is!!!

And there's so much more he's allowed to do without being checked....

No he's not really allowed all that much power, remember he's just a man, Congress can override any decision of his if they want to, and if they don't, then it should be considered silent approval by the entire government. For information to be classified, a proper authority (NOT the president) has to decide what level of classification to put it in (there are three levels: Confidential, Secret, and Top Secret), and it goes through certain procedures. I think there's also a time limit on classified information (not too sure) and it has to be reviewed to see if it still needs to be classified.

But people grossly overestimate the president's power, like I said, he's just one man. Remember that it was Congress that authorized the use of force in Iraq.
