Does weed make you smarter?

Weed might help your perspective regarding life and your goals in it, but don't expect to become a genius from toking the reefer. For me, I've found that life is about balance. Work hard, smoke a lot, be happy.

I did this thing where I was pretty much high for three weeks straight over the holidays. Gave it a brake the week after. Then from there on, I seem to retain knowledge a little bit better, and can recall certain information a little bit better for tests.

okay, but thats kind of a biased test. cause u know what you want the outcome to be so your more likely (whether u know it or not) to think ur going better or actually do better to prove your point. im just saying if u wanna prove it that way u have to have a controlled group to test that on and not let them know what your trying to accomplish (but thats just my sociology major coming out in me lol). but ye, im looking for that article cause now its bugging me and i wanna find it. if you end up finding it pm me the link plz

Well that was the whole point of me writing this article, I just recently came about this thought. I never intended on making a test out of it over the holidays, I just had a lot of spare time

I understand what you are saying with the controlled test, to come out with an unbiased outcome, but it never came across my mind of weed helping my brain at the time.

If I was to do it NOW after this discussion, then it is completely understandable.

Well if I had enough money, I would try the group test, but uhhh...hahaha.

Let me give you my whole two cents worth on the subject from the point of view from a fairly intelligent individual who is fairly well informed, and a free thinker.

I have been going to school ever since I was put in it, I have not dropped any classes. I have only failed one class which was English 11, but this was due to conflicts I had with the teacher of this class. Since then I have transfered to a Private Christian School. I am top in the school, and have the highest grades in grade 12.

Weed does not effect intelligence over periods of time. I still have the same memory capacities that I had before I started smoking. I am well informed because I choose to make myself aware for what is going on around me, and I do this from my own investigation, I do not rely on the media to inform me.

Weed is like drinking in a way, you only lose things when you are under the influence of the substance you choose to intoxicate yourself with. I stay away from harder substances like LSD and other chemical drugs out of personal choose and research. I have read the effects, had people tell me what it is like when they are on it. My choose is based off of information that I have gathered, not what school has feed me over the years, because if I listened to what they want you to hear then Weed will kill you, and you will be more likely to commit murder. I must say that weed does not do that at all. Watch what the media tries to tell you.

So to answer the question, NO, but the more informed people are more likely to do it because they make decisions through reasoning, not by media fed BS.

Some people just are intelligent, some aren't. I regard most, if not all of the regulars of this site of high intelligence, and above average debating and analysing skills. But that's not to say everyone who smokes cannabis is intelligent; but also that everybody who doesnt smoke cannabis isnt intelligent.

Hmmm, I guess I can agree with you to an extent. I myself am at the top of my class. I am in all honors classes, and maintain honor roll. I am about to enroll in one of the top schools in the state, and from what I hear of it, it has a high percentage of pot smokers.

I myself have to go along with you on the media theory, although it was completely irrelevant to this conversation...hahaha. But hey! I like where your heads at.

I also believe that if marijuana was legalized, then more intelligent people would be trying it. I just think that it's the federal government that is holding everybody back from such a glorious, and beautiful thing.

i dont think so with weed but one time when i tried the eating nutmeg deal.. i was at school on exams day and i was so high in a weird way i dont feel like telling any stories you can read my half finished report thing but anyways i didnt study at all and when we started this history test which I SUCK at i kinda blanked out or something but i dont remember it AT ALL and i ended up getting like a 92 which is great for me and like an 85 on my science those were the only two tests.. but thats good enough for me to proof that it helps

i think that like ya it opens up yoru head, but also like.... "dumber" ppl will beleive hwat they are told that weed is bad AHH!!! Weed just make me think too fast and I have a worse memory. It definitely doesn't make me smarter but it makes me more creative and I usual feel reallly happy or good after I smoke a bowl.

Wow! This is a great topic for discussion!

I certainly believe that smart people get more out of weed than what a less bright person would. I think weed won't give you anything you already didn't have, but allows you to see more of what is already in you. You become more appreciative of things. Appreciative not in thankfulness, but in awareness.

So you could say that smart people are naturally atracted to weed, or more prone to use it. While high they get to see how cool their mind really is while a dumb person who smokes just to get "F'ed up" would get the same kick out of booze or any other drug that makes you stupid so to speak..

Also, one of the effects that I note when high is that I find it a lot easier to pay attention and pick up small details that I would have otherwise not seen. I think that this is why music sounds phenomenally good when you listen to it high, you get all the little quirks and turns the musician has put into his art. So it might seem to you that while under the influence you "get smarter".

An example are those artsy independent films that don't seem to make any sense while sober, but wathching it high you get all the subliminal messages and allusions and symbolisms therein. You suddenly get what that cooky director was trying to get across and you say: "WOW"

Oh, I forgot to say that weed also has a negative effect on memory, so in the long run even though this negative effect is totally reversible, you might seem to become dumber to the people around you, just a thought.

I wouldn't say that person is necessarily smarter, they're just stoners, hippies, or junkies. Or perhaps a combination of all three. I know I am.

I have a simple answer to the original question. Weed gives you a different look at life, therefore making you a happier, mellower, perhaps more organized or even smarter person.
