If ur smokin solids well the ones I've come across then u gotsa use baccy as solids wont burn evenly without so i think it is to help the weed burn evenly. polumn is the only solid ive really known to burn well in a J without baccy as it really fluffs up well when heated and so if u really fluff it up then roll it not too tight its pretty sound. as for bush skunk etc there isnt really that much of a need for baccy.
I still use a little baccy tho.
