our national sports are cricket and AFL (Australian Rules Football). the basic idea of AFL is that you have two teams on an oval field, and you have to kick the ball between the two centre goals to score a goal, worth six points. If you handball (punch the ball) through the goals or kick it between the outer posts you earn a single point... it gets complicated with marks (catching the ball) free kicks from high tackles (around the neck) or some other infringement, and so on with no penalty kicks etc, and there's no goalkeeper, and you hold the ball to kick it, instead of running it along the ground with your feet, and you have to bounce it every 12 or so steps when you run or it's like travelling in basketball, and the ball is oval shaped to make it better to kick... confused yet?
