Yes I doubt smoking weed is a fad, possibly for certain people it is, but not for a community as a whole. I can definately see where you where going with this one though, good example with the LSD too

Yeah, that would be really weird. People would just not notice and move on to something else. But being realistic about it, I doubt it would happen, as weed has been around since ancient China and has many more uses than just the recreational ones, so it's not exactly what you'd call a fad. It's sort of like..music going out of style, know what I mean?
