If you don't have a shot glass, then a medium sized pill bottle works well. Not a narrow necked bottle like a Tylenol or Advil bottle...but a pharmacy type bottle. I believe their sizes are measured in units called 'Drams'.
I use a 12 or 14 Dram bottle. Good size.
As for the weed being dry/wet debate: To me, it's to each his own. I don't like my weed to be too sticky, but not powdery dry either. It's nice if I bust it up with my scissors and pill jar and it's done in a dozen snips and only a bit is stuck to the blades of the scissor.
If weed is too dry and powdery, I find it burns way too fast. Too sticky weed can be brutal on scissors...that and it clumps up way too much.
That's my two pennies anyhow.
