Awesome to hear you're doing well with your studies CTCF !
Sad to hear about the shooting in Aurora, you'd think people would finally open their eyes to gun control but unfortunately that seems to be something America just isn't ready for.
Abs, sounds like you're a true friend helping Morgo out, and your BF will come around to this, he doesn't have a choice anyway
First week of working the new job is over, the workload is a multitude of what I did in the past and the days are long but it'll pay off over time so I'm still happy !

Computer games don't affect kids. I mean, if Pac-Man had affected us as kids, we would all be running around darkened rooms, munching magic pills, and listening to repetitive electronic music.

Re: The Random Topic
Had WG and The Economist open at the same time and just thought that this wee read was relevant in terms of gun control....... Too late?
Link to article
As economist Justin Wolfers tweeted this morning: "Let's not talk about gun control. It's too early, right? It's always too early. Except when it's too late."
Mr Wolfers is right: the "too early" construction is ridiculous. He's also right that it's too late. It is too late for gun control in America. It's never going to happen. There are too many guns out there, and an individual right to bear arms is now entrenched in constitutional law. Gun control in America is as quaint a proposition, at this point, as marijuana prohibition, with two important differences: first, that the government is still for some reason pursuing the absurd project of marijuana prohibition; and second, that guns are actually a significant threat to public health. In this sense, gun control is on a long list of things that could have saved many people's lives and made the world a better place, but for which it is now probably too late: a two-state solution to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, EU action to avert economic catastrophe, stopping global warming. So this is just what one of America's many faces is going to be: a bitterly divided, hatefully cynical country where insane people have easy access to semi-automatic weapons, and occasionally use them to commit senseless atrocities. We will continue to see more and more of this sort of thing, and there's nothing we can realistically do about it.

Whether or not guns are legal, people like the shooter in Colorado will find a way to access them.

I disagree. Some anti-social weirdo wouldn't have made the connects on the black market (connections that don't exist, or are extremely rare) to even requisition them... and then there's no way someone would try to learn and take the time to master all the specialized skills to construct such equipment and still have such an absurd and idiotic idea in their heads.cutthecashflow wrote:Whether or not guns are legal, people like the shooter in Colorado will find a way to access them.
Rule no.1 for voting: never vote for anyone just because they agree with you on some emotional issue. I feel bad for all the young potheads that are swaying to the right just because libertarian institutes are brainwashing them into thinking their philosophy is the only answer to making their lifestyle legal. It makes it so easy to mold their minds into conforming with their other philosophies... particularly their absurd economic one.leprechaun wrote:
Also on general gun control, I honestly don't even believe the 2nd amendment was an individual right to bear arms, it's just that the right wing Nazis that make up the majority of SCOTUS like to pretend they are the forefathers. Either way it's a stupid amendment that has it's roots in outdated philosophy. We need a society organized on open minded fact, not put on Locke.

I don't even wanna get into an argument about gun control, but the idea that anyone needs a concealed weapon is stupid. If you're at home, it's nice to have a first line of defense against an intruder. But in public? I see so many cops day to day, plus just you know the general public being around. I'm never worried about someone pulling a gun because they'd be fucking stupid to shoot me when there's a lot of people around, especially if there's cops around. So if I die, at least they'll be stopped immediately. I just don't even worry about it. If someone pulled a gun on my back in a supermarket parking lot or something for instance, I wouldn't cooperate with them and get in a car and be driven off somewhere, I'd tell them to fuck off and if they shoot me, they're gonna do it in front of a bunch of people and NOT get away with it.
I personally recommend checking oneself for OCD at least once every 5 minutes.

The fact that firearms are legal in the US actually sickens me.
Actually, the fact that firearms exist sickens me.

Like that colorada incident, without guns, you can't still rule out home made explosives which can be made up using shop bought items, but without gun's as i think somebody already mentioned it would mean that they would have to go to far greater lengths if they were truly intent on harming masses. As for individuals, well there's pretty sharp kitchen knives and stuff.
Johnson lets me down on only some of his economic policies, i can't help agreeing with the most, but the ones that do let me down, let me down pretty badly. Don't like the idea that he would get rid of medicare, and then go on to say that it would have bankrupt the nation. We've had free health care for years and it wasn't a huge burden to us, and everyone wants to keep it for as far as i'm concerned. And as for cutting spending on energy and housing, well, that's just not right. I think this can be a bit out of touch. These are the kind of people i look up however and i think it was a pretty good ad. Even if it is so clearly aimed at the youth in order to entice them with one small referendum changing policy. It is however in a way pretty smart, because it may actually work for him and get votes. I'm not saying that's right or fair, but then after all isn't everybody's road to presidency simply just paved with advertising.
