Addiction -- I just wanted to post an old poem I have.

Addiction.

Your heart claws at your chest,
As your conscience screams in your face
Addiction keeps addicts at there best,
And cravings bump your pulse a steady pace

Lust, need, want,
Hell, it's all the same
Addiciton likes to taunt,
When cravings turn to pain

In the light of things, I'm deep in the dark
Beleiving there is a greater good, a greater path to be shown.
Stuck by myself, where shall I start?
Addiciton always calls when I'm feeling alone..

I can't stand dependance, I guess it all depends
With addicition by my side, the world's hatred suddenly seems to end
Another day alive, another problem to face
Dirt covers my body from what the water doesn't erase

I guess some don't understand my reasons
But when have they asked?
Many stuck with believing,
That broken bones always heal under a sturdy cast

People look at me different now,
And there condeming glance shows no end
So there quietly wondering " How? "
Could I ever let addiciton become my friend..

Others can deal with pain better than I,
I'm not afraid to admit my weakness
Sometimes I seem to think I'm the guy,
They all forget, when times are bleakest

Many think they can't count on me,
Because addicition always lingers in the air when I'm around
But many are too blind to see,
It isn't addiction thats bringing me down

I am what I am,
And I can't solve anything to prove I'm not,
Being an addict isn't all that bad,
So I sit still with a pen and the last bit of pride I got.

Hey man - from a recovered addict, I feel ya. Your poem seems to describe those feelings that not everyone knows about...

"Addiction keeps addicts at their best,
And cravings bump your pulse a steady pace

Lust, need, want,
Hell, it's all the same
Addiciton likes to taunt,
When cravings turn to pain".

I would venture that you've tangoed with the white line as well.

Keep writing
