the only time ive ever cleaned my pipe i was camping, and i was roughing it too(no tent, no campsite, just a buch of buddies hiking for like 3 days and building a shelter when we were tired) so i didnt have anything to clean it with, (this pipe had a metal bowl btw) so i took out my hunting knife and just started scraping the inside with the tip, and it came off pretty good. although i dont sudjest you use an 8 inch knife, just scraping it should get it off, i would sudjest a butter knife or a bobby pin (why do i know what those are called?? ) but hey, to each his own.
