Pacino as Montana was an outstanding performance as was De Niro as Bickle, but both those actors have gone onto 'star' in several pathetic outings. Daniel Day-Lewis is in the same exalted company as Depp and I would also love to stick Del Toro or Cusak in there but alas they have both fucked up at various points of their careers.
But wait a second, I have neglected forest whittaker whose acting prowess is mighty but ultimately a little off Depp's abilities in terms of versatility.

Part of my adoration for Depp is based on his impersonation of Thompson who was a man I respect and learn from even to this very day, but I cannot suggest a film in which Depp has been unsatisfying...so he would get my number one vote if we were actually voting.

As to non english speaking actors: I am a growing fan of Vincent Cassell who has undeniable presence on screen and one of the world's finest women by his side.

no actresses animal?
The only contemporary actress who I admire is Charlize Theron for her efforts in Monster. That fucker made me cry like a child born on a wednesday...actually come to think of it, if I was to pinpoint my favourite actress it would have to be Michelle Pfeiffer who has class in abundance and a feline charm not shared by many of her peers.

Edward Norton, Brad Pitt, Hugh Laurie, Johnny Depp, Clint Eastwood, Clive Owen...

Angelina Jolie, Katie Holmes, Rosario Dawson, Uma Thurman...

I don't really keep a list of my favorites, just thinking of ones I enjoy no matter what movie they're in.

Edward Norton i feel may be one of the best actors of any generation. My favorite Edward Norton movie is Primal Fear(if you didnt see it then its an absolute must.)with rounders coming in a close second along with American History X. Johnny depp is good but i think the roles hes most acclaimed for werent that good. If your intellectual enough to handle a deep movie then see "Dead Man" which i think is depps best performance.

As for actress i dont really think i have one. I like Jennifer Anniston but thats just because i have the biggest crush on her.

AHX was such a good movie. The ending is bleak and realisic. Nobody learnt their lesson. The white kid is dead, the black kid is in jail, norton's character has no brother, and things stay exactly the same as they did when the movie started.

Edward Norton is a fine actor. I have not been able to enjoy fight club despite watching it a few times but did massively feel Norton in AMerican History X.

Harvey Keitel is another actor who has starred in some wicked films. I put him in the same category as Walken; breathtaking at times but sometimes badly cast.
