am i watering too much?

Post by leiscter »

i've just put three seeds that i germinated into some peat pots and put a hps light over them. as you know, the light gets pretty hot, so it dries out the soil very quickly, every few hours or so. so whenever they look really dry, i shuv a bit of water on top of them to make em moist. i end up doing this about two or three times a day, am i drowning them, cuz it's been a few days and they haven't broken through the soil yet. i also think i might have packed the soil a bit tight.

also, is it really worth adding fertilizer at this time? and if i planted the seeds a little too deep (im not sure that i did), what difference will it make?

i think your overwatering them badly, stick your finger alll the way down in the soil and see if its still dry at the bottom, if it isn't do not water them

ok, ill lay off, but i don't think the hps light really helps, i mean its obviously really good for growin, but it dries the top of the soil real quick. how long after having planted them, and having germinated them, should a sprout begin to appear?

not too long, but dont worry bout the top of the soil...the roots are on the bottom of the cup anyway so tihnk about it like that.

i'll have to start again now anyway. i'd placed my plants on a small table and yeserday i was changing the foil on the wall and one of the legs came off the table so all three of my plants fell all over the place. i guess it could be a good thing, to start fresh, lets hope it works this time.

one more thing, i ordered some plant food stuff called superthrive of the net, is it any good? if not, anyone know where to get the best stuff off the net?

It is best to germinate young seedlings under flourescent lights.

Superthrive is good.
