A few football/soccer questions

Anyways I was watching an Aresnal game today and I realize that I know nothing at all about soccer!? So I've got a few questions that might need some answering.

1) What is a yellow flag?
2) What is a black flag?
3) How are you offsides in soccer, I know how it works in Hockey, but not in soccer.

4) Does the clock ever stop?
5) There are two halves right?
6) How many players are on the field at once?
7) Is there anything like a penalty box?
Which team has the best record?

1) What is a yellow flag? Do you mean the corner flags or the ones the linesman is holding?
2) What is a black flag?
3) How are you offsides in soccer, I know how it works in Hockey, but not in soccer. A player is in an offside position if:

* he is nearer to his opponents' goal line than both the ball and the second last opponent if the ball is passed to him

A player is not in an offside position if:

* he is in his own half of the field of play
* he is level with the second last opponent
* he is level with the last two opponents


4) Does the clock ever stop?No but all time for fouls etc...is added up and added to the end of the match. This is called 'extra time'
5) There are two halves right?Yes, a 45 minutes first half, a 15 minute break, then another 45 minute half.
6) How many players are on the field at once?each team has 11 players on the pitch at a time.
7) Is there anything like a penalty box?Yes, the penalty box is the box around the goal. In the middle of it is a white spot, this is known as the penalty spot. If the opposition commit a foul in their own penalty box the other team wins a penalty. The goal keeper is not allowed to move off the goal line until the player has kicked the football.

Interesting..I don't really know a whole lot about soccer/football either. I never excelled in that sport, though I'm sure I woulda liked it more if I couulda played it better! I sucked at ball handling.

ARSENAL! Atleast you were watching a Great Team. Im not sure what you mean by yellow flag and black flag tho. Offside is when you are closer to the goal than the last defender and the ball is played to you.

For yellow flag I mean when the judge/ref/luinesmine holds it up when a player like takes another opponents legs out from underneath him.

Oh right, if a foul or offside is commited, the linesman will hold up the flag and point towards goal the player that commited the foul plays for.
