nothing complete black no conciousness your no longer aware you exist because put simply you dont as for your soul well seeing as it is intangible i imagine that ones soul could "live" on after death perhaps this is where the idea of an afterlife comes from?

Ive seen so much death. Mom died when I was 5 of cancer. Dad killed himself and I found him when I was 14, next my aunt a year later when I had moved in with her from sudden brain hemmorage - just died backing her car up, no warning. Both grandfathers, one grandmother. 3 friends in high school. All this and I still dont have the slightest idea what happens when you die.

I would like to think I keep my subjective experiences but go on to something more *everything* than this life. All the evidence Ive seen leads me to believe that you dont do anything different than when a worm dies - you decompose and thats it.

Organized religion has my contempt.

well i dont think anyone can really come up with a true answer to a question like that. at least not in this state. but hearing everyones thoughts is always interesting in this type of topic. coming up with an answer is like trying to imagine the unimaginable. something youve never experienced in any way and wouldnt be able to imagine no matter how long you thought. i think the best we could do for a question like that is to look at what we have, or possibly have experienced. for me ive only come up with another question...what was there before you were born? "nothing"?

its kind of like thinking about all of existence if youre not religous. where did everything come from? what was the first thing and where did that even come from? if anything that we are in, like our universe, didnt exist then what would there be? what the hell is "nothing" and where is it or what is it in?

Gorecore wrote:I think when we die we actually awaken for the first time. We open our eyes for the first time in a world that's dark, not white.

It's cold. Very cold. You sit alone with only the faintest light coming from an unknown source. Time no longer has meaning, and nothing is everything.
Kinda sinds just like a baby coming out of the womb into reality. Cold, dark, with distant lights piercing through trying to touch your eyes, but your eyes aren't used to the light. The nothingness to him outside of the womb, to which he only heard whispers of prior to, and is now engulfed in the overwhelmingness of that "nothingness". He's reached The Other Side.

Anyways,

Life and everything there is under the heavens and earth or born from nothingness. And yet, nothingness (nonbeing) is born from "being". Some of you have posted that you wish for there to not to be nothingness after you die, you overlook the value of nothingness. Take a pot for instance. While it's made itself of clay, but it's the nothingness within the pot that makes it so valuable. If we didn't have nothing between the spokes in our wheels than the sopkes would be rendered pointless, or the way a bellows utilizes its nothingness to, to create a wind as it pumps, much like our very lungs. Nothingness is essential in anything tangible.

Nature always caters to that which has less. For example, osmosis, a very basic everyday happening, where something with quantity contributes to something without quantity. The same way perfume diffuses into the air which has no smell, or the way when one who thinks everything is easy will encounter much difficulty, and vice versa, if one considers all things to be difficult he will be met with little resistance.

Therefore,
If one has life, death will seek him, especially if he clings to life and hordes it to himself. Nature will find a way to spread this horded mass among itself. Conversely, in death, when one returns to nothingness, Nature will find away to bring that nothingness into being.

This is what I have walked away with, from reading through the Tao Te Ching. Basically the bible of Taoism put in layman's terms. I've never read the bible so it's unfair for me to compare the two beside eachother, but it basically defines the beliefs or at least the philosophy behind Tao, or The Way. It was an extremely interesting read, and really brought to light the inherent duality of all things. I would recommend anyone to read it, not trying to convert anybody here, but it's just a really thought procoking read. You could read it over and over again, and probably discern some new meaning from it everytime. Best thing about it is that it's fairly concise, I read it all in one sitting... cept for that time I went to the pisser heh.

All in all, I don't desire to know what happens after death, to know about after death, would be to act upon after death, and the actions regarding that after death are best left to those of Nature.

Just a little bit of philosophy for y'all *h'yuck* :P :P

Zen your talking about negative space, i like what your saying about satisfaction in nothingness but what would be left of us? guessing no matter what your perspective is most believe it is your soul that lives on so does that mean there is no physical 'us'. To many questions and even more answers. It might sound corny but I hope that there is some version of heaven. Somewhere pleasent and happy.
Scientist have proven emotion is a physical reaction that involve chemicals in your body. If your soul

what a subject.
death.

its something i try to avoid focusing on too much, as when i do, parta my soul starts to wade into this violent misxture of fear, sorrow, anguish, pain, compassion and selfishness. though it is something which is rife throughout every corner of this planet, which is itself subject to an age(like each planet lives and dies, kinda like people but over much much longer).
anyway this horrific mixture of negative emotions grwos bigger and more powerful with every death that i read about witness or exprience in some way or other. could be seeing more 7 year old kids shot in the head in the palestine, it could be my hamster dying, it could be a earthquake killing lots of all forms of life in one foul swoop. also when i experience what i percieve to be evil, this mixture grows more potent, like if i see people been evil, cheating, robbing, taking advantage over another life without morals, without benign or charitable intentions. it all goes inthis area i suppose.

this are i try to avoid. though i know that death is part of my destiny as it is part of every living entities cycle. but is cycle the right word? as some of the stuff that ZEN was talking about, to do with TAO, were very interesting, though ultimately fall short of my leaning towards a path from birth to death ina line, not a circle.

i would love to believe in a more circular idea for life and death. i could find solace very easily in buddhis ideas of rebirth and other reinacarnation theories, but the solace would be uneasy as most of my mind is based on some practical reasoaning as opposed to idealogical theories about what could be.

i could write so much more, i only even looked at this page of this whole thread..

ahhh. i do believe there so much more to life than what inferior people allow themsleves to believe there is. i do beleive that we are capable of such a huge amount more communicating with other forms of life and each other. i do beleive that we are all connected inone big life force connection. i am not sure exactly what i think happens after death, apart from the decomposition of the physcial form. what happens t this soul i always talk about, this life force??

i believe there are various dimensions of time and space and spirituality that we simply do not consider or pursue with enough vigour to give us results that i feel would be easily forthcoming with proper energy directed in the right areas, like animal to human communcation.
like mind reading humand
like remote viewing
like moving objects with the mind
like speaking with fish
like feeling the future as much as we can feel the past

and more

so in short i am in no way certain of nething that might happen after death swings his scythe of destiny....

ps when zen wrote 'procoking' i thought for a few seconds that the TAO way of life was geared towards excessive coke consumption.
i would like to learn more about this TAO business, duality sounds interesting, though nothingness isnt nothingess, or is it?i would like to find out more!

It's not hard to see the circular things in life, especially revolving around life and death. Just look towards the seasons. Winter, Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter, Spring, Summer , Fall, Winter, it all goes around and around. Or look towards the formation and destruction of a solar system or galaxy!

Perhaps when we die our souls vanish into the nothingness between the stars, and take part in grand social consicousness through the median of absolute nothingness, which would allow for no barriers, no physical walls to be errected between the mental errr even the spiritual self. Here, in the world of tangibility we have faces and emotions to hide our true thoughts. We were speaking of infidelity of the mind in another post perhaps in the afterlife, also what comes with it is complete fidelity, knowing no barries our "consciousness" (since we obviously loose this when we die) diffueses into the universe and we are absolved into one greater "thought". Compromised of infinitely many thoughts, but remaining as a signular whole.

Whoa... now that's a thinker.... I gotta go smoke some hash and think some more on this now lol.

Head to your library and pick up the Tao Te Ching by Lao Tzu, Dan. I'm sure they'll have it. It's actually not that long of a read, I read it in 7 hours I think and I"m a pretty slow reader. Re read most of the chapters, each of which are only a page, a couple time sbefore moving on.

Anyways, I'm out...
