Career advice

Although I should probably know better than to ask this from a bunch of stoners....i guess some of you have your noggins firmly screwed in so here goes:

I work on contract basis with a news magazine. My contract expired the end of April. I was told (by my immediate boss) that my contract (which was earlier for 6 months) would now be extended for two years, along with an increase in pay. All of this however, was all verbal.
I was supposed to get my new contract on the first of May. Its now the 3rd of June and I still havent gotten it. I havent been paid for last month either. I asked for a salary advance and the fucks have given me just enough for me to pay rent, cell phone bill, water and electricity. I have no money (of my own) to smoke, eat, drink or travel...i hate borrowing and i hate going on asking the HR department to loa me money because they treat me like a fucking beggar.

My options:
1) Keep on working and hope for the best (since this is a well-known magazine and they wouldnt --i dont think so anyway) do anything to jeopardise their reputation
2) Lock all my work in my computer at work..put all my shit in hidden folders till they give my contract (but then they might not give me anything at all and hit me on disciplinary charges)

anyone else know what more I can do?

This may sound stupid, but do you have a union or a rep?! Also if your short for cash the bank should be able to give you a 'courtesey' loan, which is based on your previous income and expenditure and usually there interest free for 6 months! Dont know if thats any help!

If I was you, I'd put all ya shit in hidden folders or whatever your plan was, and when the boss comes-a-knockin and tell them they get your work back as soon as you get your fuckin contract. (This tactic works especially well if you're a real valued employee.) If (s)he refuses I'd just fuckin pack my shit, head out and find another job. But then that's just me, and I'm a stubborn jackass.

I have very little experience in the job market, but, if you don't mind, could you give me some tips or something about the journalism field. I am an avid reader and writer, and journalism is my number one dream job at this moment.

so far theyve given me an a cash advance on half my salar for May. I still havent been paid fully for May and its now the frigging 17th of frigging june.
I get paid 22,000. Theyve given me an 8500 advance (on the 2nd of June) plus conveyance allownace and cellphone bill allowance (3150)
Thats still a little over 10 grand thats owed to me. Repeated emails to the HR guys has not worked. My immediate boss's emails have had no results either. Im going today to the HR buildng to sit on his head and see what he (the HR guy) says...

* do the crossword everyday dude. The Guardian (cryptic) is a good one to improve your vocabulary. Use a theasaurus (preferably Oxford or Webster) while doing the crossword. You'll notice a definite improvement in spoken and written English within a month.
* do you have a college/school paper? start writing for that.

I just don't get this... why the hell can't they just pay you your salary. I realize you don't have a real contract.... but you haveta get one or you're gonna get jipped out of a shit load of money.

But i'd say i'm more of a stubborn asshole.

no luck so far..they still giving me the runaround...and im still owed a little over 3 grand from May...
the thing is i cant really dictate terms cos theyve never hired anyone as young as me before...(they usually hire ppl with 6-7 years experience in journalism and i have just one year's...)so dont know if its a good idea to stick my hand up and make a noise...thats what another guy at work told me..

iv been on hr's ass since the beginning of ths mnth..first they said that i was due for an increase in salary along with the rest of the company, but all increment letters were on hold till our editor-in-chief (who had pushed off to Stanford to give some frigging lecture) came back...he came back the second week of June...and i got my letter but no money..
now the hr person has stopped answering emails and is never around when i land up at his cubicle..i think ill shit on his desk the next time he isnt there...
