Wanting to grow but...

I have no clue what to do. I have a one bedroomed, upper floor flat consisting of hall, kitchen, living room and bedroom. Im wanting to grow one plant for personal use, and was wondering if any of you nice people can advise me of which room would be best to grow in and what utensils i will need? I also need this to be secretive due to landlords!!! god damnit!

Ive already named my soon to be plant, Herman The Herb Plant! lmao
Also are there any really good websites you may suggest for my growing knowledge?
